Daylight Savings Time 2012
Mar 11th, 2012 by admin

It’s Sunday morning and you just woke up, you turned on the coffee pot and you are thinking, ” I’ve got plenty of time before Church or my first appointment.”

But did you turn your clocks ahead?

A popular saying to help remind you is “Spring Ahead, Fall Back.”

spring-ahead1

If you did before you went to sleep, then you are in good shape! If you didn’t, then you had better hustle, because it is an hour later!

It means more daylight in the evenings for doing things, like showing houses!

I like it!  Do you?

Ideas for New Year Resolutions
Dec 30th, 2011 by admin

Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution?  Who hasn’t?  This past week, I have been seeing many different resolutions posted on Facebook that are good ones to think about using for your own New Year’s Resolutions.

Here are a few of them:

Stop runniing away!

This could be from a relationship, from your problems, from your mistakes, from your opportunities, from your family, from your friends!

Be yourself!

This could be to yourself, around your family, around your friends, take off the mask, let people know your true feelings!

Think Big!

This could be at your work, with your career, with a relationship!

Play More!

These are a few, and I will add more over the next couple of days left in this year 2011!

Labor Day
Sep 5th, 2011 by admin

Labor Day signifys a lot of things and I thought I would talk about it and what it means to me.

First of all to me, it means the summer vacation is over for all the school age children!  In our area, school starts one or two days after Labor Day.  As a kid growing up, it was the last bit of fun before school.  Our town, Rushford, New York,  had a big celebration with a parade, a carnival, baseball game, 4-H competition with cattle, vegetables, baking and other products.  It was here that I saw many of my school classmates that I hadn’t seen all summer!  We always had a great time!

I think the other affect Labor Day had on me was to remind me of all the people who were working at jobs and it was a time to be thankful for our workforce.  This was the original reason why President Grover Cleveland made it a National Holiday.  There is alot of history leading up to establishing it as a Holiday.

Another thing I remember, is my mother telling me that you don’t wear white after Labor Day, it’s not fashionable.

In U.S. sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons. NCAA teams usually play their first games the week before Labor Day, with the NFL traditionally playing their first game the Thursday following Labor Day.

So, there you have it!  My thoughts on Labor Day!  Enjoy the day however you plan to spend it!

Memorial Day 2011

Having a family that has a rich heritage in serving in the military from the Revoluntionary War right up to the present War in Afghanistan, this day has always been a day to remember!

Remembering those who served in the armed forces and those who paid the ultimate price and died fighting for our freedoms.

New Year’s Resolutions
Dec 31st, 2010 by admin

new-years-resolutions

Today is the last day of 2010!  Just the thought that tomorrow will be 2011 and that another year has passed, is enough to make most of us reflect back on the events and activities of the past year and then think ahead to the prospect of doing better in the New Year!

What about you? Do you have these thoughts and feelings?

So, that being said, what are your Resolutions?

I was looking at the Top 10 Resolutions and found several that would be on my top 10 list.

Number One is and will probably always be number one, Spend More Time With Family!

Who couldn’t say that would be a top resolutions?

Another one is regarding our health and fitness.  This could be two resolutions, eat more healthy and go to the gym!  I bet one or both of these is on your list!  How many of us have bought gym memberships and then never used them?  Why don’t we make a resolution to just walk up a flight of stairs each day or do some sit-ups or some push-ups?

Photographer: Frank C. Müller

Doctors tell us that it is simply doing a small amount of some exercise that will make the difference in the long run, more that a big effort once in a while! It’s called the Exercise Habit.

Then of course, there is our business resolutions which could be in the form of sales goals, production goals, responsibility, advancement, and more!

Have you set these in place for 2011?

It’s not too late to plan. You know what they say about planning?

So there it is and here it is - 2011!

Looking forward to seeing you in 2011!

Happy New Year!

Thoughts on keeping a Listing Active during the Holidays

Many people ask me what I think about having their home on the market during the Holiday?  Should we take it off and put it back on after New Year’s day?  Will there be any traffic through it?

First let me say there are many different situations that exist out there and rarely are two of the the same, that being said, here are my reason for staying on the market.

1. Relocation buyers come into town during the Holidays to look for their next home.  They are definite buyers that are going to make a decision in a short time.  Taking your home off the market during the Holidays eliminates these buyers.

2. The Holiday Spirit is also a factor, and seeing a home decorated for the Holidays gives the buyers a warm fuzzy about the house!

3.  Buyers in the marketplace at this time of the year, are serious buyers!  Don’t miss out on them looking at your house!

4.  There are fewer hours of daylight!  Why is that a reason?  It means you are inconvenienced less by having a short  window of showing daylight.  Usually, this means no showings during the week because it is dark at 4:30 pm!  this means you only need to keep the house picked up and clean on the weekends!  Yea!

5.  Less competition!  Usually there are fewer homes on the market to compete against.

6.  Last, but not least by any means, the interest rates are still 50-year lows!

There are probably other reasons, but these should help convince you to keep it ACTIVE on the MLS!

Happy  Hanukkah!  Merry Christmas!  Happy New Year!  Happy selling!

2010 July Heat Wave in Rochester, New York
Jul 7th, 2010 by admin

sun_cartoon2010 July Heat Wave in Rochester, New York

As we headed into the July 4th weekend, we were all hopeful that we would have good weather to celebrate! Little did we know tha it would be this sunny and this HOT!

imagescapuhjgx

We are heading into our 4th day in a row over the 90 degree mark and everyone is feeling it. People who don’t have air-conditioning are heading to the lakes and swimming pools to cool off. The City of Rochester has a cool down program where in designated areas they will open the fire hyrants for the children and some adults to run through.

The Red Cross handed our 250 fans to seniors who had no air-conditioning to help them survive the heat wave. They were gone in 30-minutes! It appears that the entire country is going through this weather pattern and is trying to cope.

The weatherman is telling us that there is relief coming on Friday with a thunderstorm.

As a Realtor, I am inside showing homes more than I am outside, but even so, I can hardly stand these temperatures! For my buyers, a house with no air-conditioning is an immediate cross-off the list! I don’t know how people work outdoors in these temperatures! And of course, it becomes an easy conversation subject to bring up!

Here are some thoughts about how you can cope with this intense heat and help others.

1. Stay out of the sun!

2. Go to a movie.

3. Go to the library.

4. Slow down, avoid strenuous activity.

5. Drink plenty of fluids.

6. Limit the intake of alcoholic beverages.

7. Keep shades down on the windows toward the sun.

8. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

9. Wear a wide brim hat.

10. Never leave pets or children in a closed vehicle.

11. Check on elderly family members.

Until the weather breaks,  RochesterREguy says keep cool!

4th of July
Jul 3rd, 2010 by admin

What are you doing for the 4th of July?

liberty2

The talk around the office is that everyone is taking off some time this 4th of July weekend.  The market has been good for us and we have all been working very hard, especially to get those sale contracts signed before the April 30th deadline and then to get them closed by June 30th so the buyers could take advantage of the Tax Stimulus.

The market has definitely slowed down and we are now in our summer mode.  Our market does this every year as we approach the 4th of July.

Some agents that I know are going camping.  There is the comforable full amenities way of camping by using a motor home or there is the “rough-it” way using a tent and cooking over a grill or campfire.

letchworth20state20park20new20york

Then there are the locations to camp at.  You can drive to the Adirondacks for some awesome camping sites, or a shorter drive to areas camps, such as Stony Brook or Letchworth State Parks.

Other agents are heading are heading to the lakes.  This could be Charlotte Beach on Lake Ontario, or it could be Canandaigua Lake or Conesus Lake or one of the other Finger Lakes.

boating

Others are staying home and catching up on some projects arond the house or gardens.  The only thing to be aware of is the hot temperatures we are going to have!  The weather forcast is calling for mid-nineties!  For us this is hot!!

I just got a call from a customer to show him a house that recently came on the market.  I’m sure other agents like myself are working in between taking some time off.

Either way, remember those who made this National Holiday possible and why we are celebrating July 4th!

On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country.

Whatever you are doing, be safe and have fun!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

2010 is here!

A new decade has started!  A fresh year to improve upon last year!  A new beginning from some old habits.  A chance for putting in place our New Year’s Resolutions!

If one of these applys to you, how are you going to keep on track?

There are many systems and methods for assisting us in our efforts to be true to our goals for the new year!

Thanksgiving
Nov 26th, 2009 by admin

Thanksgiving tends to make me stop for a day and reflect back over the past year. As I do, I think about all the people I have met over the past year that are now part of my life experience. I think about the experiences I have had, both good and bad, that have now shaped me for the future. And I think about my family and I am thankful for them and their support.

I hope you have had a good year and that you are taking time to appreciate all that you have to be thankful for.

For those of you that are currently involved in a major crisis, I offer a prayer for you, for you to have the strength to overcome it and grow stronger. So often we are consumed by our own thoughts, problems and concerns and we loose perspective of all that we are blessed with.

Today on this Thankgiving, I wish you a Happy Holiday with those you choose to be with and remind you to Be Thankful and enjoy your familiy and friends.
